Never go shopping for clothes with her. I hate it when I see couples shopping for clothes together.

woman with shopping bagsAh..being in a relationship. There are so many things to do with the girl that you could spend the rest of your life getting blisters on your feet from exploring every inch of the city that surrounds you.

Of the many things that you can do with her, shopping for clothes shouldn’t be one of them. You can shop for sporting equipment, office supplies, kitchenware, you name it, but never shop with her when buying clothes.

There is actually two sides to this:

1) You don’t want to be with her when you’re shopping for a new outfit for yourself.

It eliminates the surprise factor when you actually wear the outfit. You’ll never get the “hey, that looks good on you!” or “Oh hey, I like your shirt”. If you do go shopping with her and she picks out your outfit, when it comes to wearing it, you’re only going to get the “oh is that the shirt I picked out for you?” Yeah, not too appealing when you’re out and about during a date. How manly can you be if you’re woman is always picking out your wardrobe? Show that you have good taste and ability to make good choices. You’ll get places!

2) You don’t want to be with her when she’s shopping for an outfit for herself.

Girls are pretty hard to go shopping with. They can go shopping for hours on end and never pickup a thing. They can also pickup everything in one day that could tie them over for a whole year. Because of the wide variety of shops and niche outlets they have at their disposal, you could go insane just following her around while she browses. The same goes for this situation too, if I see her picking out her wardrobe and trying things on while shopping, I’ll already know what she looks like in that outfit. Where is the surprise? When you wear that outfit for the first time in a social environment, guys will think “Oh I remember that outfit”.

So couples, please keep it fresh and don’t shop together. I hate it when I see couples shopping for clothes together.

I don’t know if I agree with this, but I’m not the average girl. For starters, I HATE shopping. I can’t do it for more than an hour, tops. So I like to get in, get what I want, and get out. My boyfriend comes with me because he knows what he likes to see me in, and he knows I have no style. So he’ll pick stuff for me to wear, and he loves to see me in the new outfits. It’s a lot different when you’re just trying the clothes on than if you’re all done up cute and wearing the outfit. You’ll still get the hey that looks great! Well, you will if you’re in a good relationship anyways. ;-)

    Hi Date Girl,

You definitely seem not to be the average girl. It’s been my experience that a lot of women love shopping! I totally agree that if you’re in a good relationship you’ll always get the “hey that looks great”. However, theres something about the feeling about seeing your girlfriend in a new outfit that you’ve never seen before!
Keep up the blogging! I’m an avid reader of your blog!

Thank god. If he doesn’t come shopping with ME, I can still spend time with my friends while shopping. And I don’t have to go with him to look at ties or pants or some other boring piece of male garb.

But I am like Date Girl. I hate shopping. When I go, its mainly for the social bonding with a female friend. We talk a lot, catch up and get stuff done. We also talk a lot about how fat/skinny we are.

Weird. Given the number of niche and boutique stores out there for women, I would still say that the majority of women love to shop. I think it’s just a coincidence that the two women commenter’s/bloggers are not fond of shopping that much. I definitely agree with you Singlutionary, it’s a great time to bond with your girl friends and enjoy your time away from the relationship. Everything in moderation :)
