Why people cheat on their boyfriend or girlfriend
Have you ever been in a relationship with someone and cheated on them? Of course you haven’t. My readers would never do that! But you may know of someone who was in a relationship with someone and was either cheated on or did the cheating themselves. It sucks to be cheated on. Just when you think you were in a relationship with someone you thought you trusted, the exact opposite happens.
The number of reasons why people cheat can be plentiful. One thing to note is that they shouldn’t be seen as reasons but excuses. Reasons are given as part of a justification beforehand. Excuses are used when people get caught.
The main reason why people cheat is due to marginal utility.
Yes. Marginal utility. What’s that you ask?
It’s the change in satisfaction that one gets by consuming an additional good. It stems from economic theory but has applications in many other areas.
If you go out with someone for a while, the marginal utility that you receive from going out with them diminishes. The marginal utility of seeing someone new that you like is higher than the marginal utility than seeing your existing boyfriend/girlfriend. And when you obtain higher satisfaction of doing one thing over another, you tend to go with the one that yields higher satisfaction.
And that is why people cheat.

However, if the person truly loves her or his partner, cheating would never happen especially if he or she stick to his or her vows that he or she will remain faithful. I think cheating happens when both parties do not want to make it work or it is just the other one who does the effort.

It’s true. Cheating can happen for many reasons. It is a give and take for both people in the relationship. To me, it’s directly associated to marginal utility.
