Problems can arise when there is a communication breakdown between two people of where the relationship is headed.
Sometimes a relationship hits a wall. And in most cases it’s where the girl is looking to get married, and the guy hasn’t popped the question yet.
Is there an acceptable time frame when a guy should pop the question? 1 year? 2 years? How does someone know when to pop the question? Maybe he is waiting on more signs from the girl or wants to be at a certain level before he commits himself. A lot of variables are at play, however, it doesn’t have to be overly complicated.
In my opinion, it boils down to two things:
1. Lack of communication
If the relationship isn’t getting to the next level, it’s often the case that the lines of communication are not open enough. It’s obvious that a woman can’t ask, “So are you going to marry me or what?”. as it comes off a bit insecure and needy. However, she can drop hints to him that she is ready to. Just have your eyes locked on the wedding show every time you are watching television. If it’s not on, record the episode and put it in the VCR!
2. Being at different stages in life.
If someone isn’t ready to get married, there isn’t anything you can do about it. It’s not you, it’s them. The question is, “are they worth it enough to put your life on hold and wait for them?” That predicament is the reason why many couples break up. Expectations need to managed. If they give you a timeframe of when they think they will be ready, it’s a hint that they have it in their roadmap to settle down. If they can’t even give you a time frame, it’s a red signal that you must action.
Conclusion
If two people are meant to be together, whether they get married in 3 months, 6 months, 1 year or even 3 years, it shouldn’t really matter. Keep the lines of communication open, manage expectations and make sure that both of you are at the same stage in life. If you follow these guidelines, you should be good to go..
