But are you happy? Why success doesn’t always bring happiness

January 13th, 2010

Have you ever come in contact with A-type personality types? You know the people: over achievers, go-getters, have to conquer the world…always working towards something.

I recently met up with one of my old friends who falls into this personality type.
He has a great education, great job making tons of money, his own place….but for some reason I felt that he wasn’t happy.

So I asked him. “Are you happy?”

His reply was “no”.

“I have everything that I want in this world except love and someone to share my life with.”

I then asked him if he would trade what he has for love.

“Yeah of course. The things that I have don’t make me happy at night.”

So here you have a guy with all the things that anyone could possibly need in life, unhappy, and miserable. Isn’t it ironic that many people get up everyday and attempt to become the best person they can be only to feel empty inside because they have no one to share it with?

In the big picture, how much value do materialistic objects really bring us?

interesting article.. dam man this sounds like me haha and you too bud. Except I am happy just maybe sometimes when I’m bored I’m not. But usually thinking about my money and my achievements makes me happy almost all the time.

Except would I trade money for love? No I wouldn’t. I’ve dated 10/10 girls that no one could get.. but am I ready at this point in my life for a long term relationship or something serious, No I’m not. Perhaps that will change as things change in life all the time. But for now, I’m all about the cash and the power. Not the most enlightened perspective in life, I get it.. welcome to the American way lol
